“داستانی از عشق، فقدان و زندگی فشرده در یک سال”

شخصیت اصلی داستان، دیرین (Daryn) با بازی جیدن اسمیت، یک جوان ۱۷ ساله باهوش، منظم و جاه‌طلب است که تمام آینده‌اش از پیش برنامه‌ریزی شده است: ورود به دانشگاه هاروارد و دنبال کردن یک مسیر شغلی موفق، هدفی که به شدت تحت تاثیر پدرش، خاویر (با بازی کوبا گودینگ جونیور – Cuba Gooding Jr.) قرار دارد. زندگی دیرین کاملاً طبق نقشه پیش می‌رود تا اینکه با دختری به نام ایزابل (Isabelle) با بازی کارا دلوین آشنا می‌شود. ایزابل شخصیتی کاملاً متضاد دارد؛ او پرانرژی، بی‌پروا، آزاد و سرزنده است و خیلی زود قلب دیرین را تسخیر می‌کند.

اما درست زمانی که عشق میان آن‌ها شکوفا می‌شود، دیرین حقیقتی ویرانگر را کشف می‌کند: ایزابل به سرطان مبتلاست و پزشکان به او گفته‌اند که تنها حدود یک سال دیگر برای زندگی فرصت دارد. این خبر زندگی دیرین را زیر و رو می‌کند. او در یک تصمیم بزرگ و فداکارانه، تمام نقشه‌های دقیق و آینده‌نگرانه خود را کنار می‌گذارد تا در همان یک سال باقی‌مانده، یک عمر کامل از تجربیات و خاطرات را به ایزابل هدیه دهد. از جشن‌های مهم زندگی گرفته تا ماجراجویی‌های کوچک و بزرگ، دیرین مصمم است آخرین سال زندگی عشقش را به بهترین و کامل‌ترین شکل ممکن بسازد.
