اسکار شیندلر که تاجری معمولی است که عضو حزب نازی می‌باشد، به خاطر طبع خوشگذران و عیاش خود و با توجه به دوستی بین او و مقامات رده بالای ارتش که بیشتر به خاطر سخاوت وی است، موفق می‌شود کارخانه‌ای را با پول یهودیانی که در خفا با آنان شریک شده بخرد. سپس با توجه به همین روابط خود یهودیان را به عنوان کارگر در کارخانه اشتغال می‌دهد. رفته رفته این راه فراری برای بعضی از یهودیان می‌شود که در قرنطینه مانده‌اند و خطر مرگ هر لحظه آنان را تهدید می‌کند. فیلم تغییر دیدگاه اسکار شیندلر را نشان می‌دهد که از صبر و قدردانی یهودیان تاثیر گرفته و رفته رفته خود را وقف تسهیل شرایط و زنده نگه داشتن آنان می‌کند.

فهرست شیندلر (به انگلیسی: Schindler’s List) فیلمی آمریکایی به کارگردانی استیون اسپیلبرگ، محصول سال 1993 است. فهرست شیندلر بر پایه زندگی واقعی اسکار شیندلر، صنعتگر آلمانی که جان بیش از هزار لهستانی یهودی را در جریان هولوکاست نجات داد، می‌باشد. فیلم بر پایهٔ کتاب شیندلرز آرک که برندهٔ جایزه بوکر شده، ساخته شده است. این فیلم تا مدت‌ها در فهرست 250 فیلم برتر سایت بانک اینترنتی اطلاعات فیلم‌ها رتبهٔ 5 را داشت. موسیقی این فیلم ساخته جان ویلیامز آهنگساز مشهور هالیوود است. در این موسیقی ایتزاک پرلمان یکی از مشهورترین ویولونیست‌های قرن بیستم هنرنمایی می‌کند.

فهرست شیندلر یک موفقیت تجاری با فروش 321 میلیون دلاری بود و در کنار آن توانست جوایز بسیاری از جمله جایزه اسکار بهترین فیلم و جایزه اسکار بهترین کارگردانی را بدست بیاورد.

فهرست شیندلر اولین فیلم سیاه و سفیدی است که جایزه اسکار بهترین فیلم را بعد از سال 1960 برنده شده است؛ هرچند که در ابتدا و انتهای فیلم، صحنه‌هایی هم به صورت رنگی پخش می‌شود.

بنیاد فیلم آمریکا فهرست شیندلر را سومین فیلم برتر تاریخ سینما در گونهٔ حماسی، در فهرست 10 فیلم برتر در 10 ژانر خود عنوان کرد.
