«گوییدو» ی یهودی (بنینی) شیفته ی یک معلم مدرسه به نام «دورا» (براسکی) می شود و با استفاده از طنز و شوخی سرانجام به هدفش می رسد و با او ازدواج می کند. اما چند سال بعد، او از همین حس طنز و شوخی خود باید بهره ببرد تا پسرش را در اردوگاه کار اجباری حفظ کند…

زندگی زیباست (به ایتالیایی: La vita è bella) فیلمی ایتالیایی به کارگردانی روبرتو بنینی است. این فیلم یکی از برترین آثار کمدی جهان محسوب میشود؛ هرچند که فقط نیمه اول فیلم حالت کمدی دارد. در واقع فیلم از آن دسته ایست که به دو قسمت کاملاً متفاوت تقسیم میشوند. نیمهٔ اول این فیلم دربارهٔ گوییدو یک یهودی است که تازه به شهر آمده درگیر ماجرای عشقی می‌شود. نیمهٔ دوم فیلم به مسئلهٔ یهودی‌ستیزی در زمان جنگ جهانی دوم می‌پردازد.

زندگی زیباستجایزهٔ اسکار بهترین فیلم غیر انگلیسی‌زبان، اسکار بهترین موسیقی متن و همچنین اسکار بهترین بازیگر مرد (روبرتو بنینی) را در سال 1998 کسب کرد.
